She has demonstrated keen leadership in a variety of roles during her tenure at Ellis, including as Director of Enrollment Management for the past four years, and as the Head of the Middle School for more than eight years. She began her tenure at Ellis as a history teacher and has also served as a cross country coach. She is the proud parent of two Ellis alumnae. Michelle attended Vanderbilt University, where she earned an M.ED in Social Studies Education, a bachelor of science in U.S. History, and a minor in Sociology.
Originally from Washington, D.C., Michelle attended an all-girls high school where students were encouraged and supported to think critically and to question and learn from their classmates—classmates with whom she has maintained strong bonds over the years. When she and her husband moved to Pittsburgh in 2006 with their two young daughters, they were impressed by how Ellis girls were guided and celebrated, and how intentional and thoughtful the students’ educational experience was. At the end of their Ellis visit, as she watched her prospective kindergartner skip down the Arbuthnot path, she knew that they had found the right school.
Michelle is excited to continue her to work for the Ellis community in her role as Interim Head of School, helping the School continue its legacy as a place that empowers girls and young women to become bold, authentic changemakers by providing them with excellent academic education that encourages them to think deeply and confidently, to be willing and interested in exploring new opportunities, and to be positive community members.
