Being Bold Together

The Ellis School has a tradition of being a safe haven for students where they flourish, find their voice, and go out into the world and lead with fervor, tenacity and grit.
Led by the formidable Sara Frazer Ellis, who sought to provide girls and young women with a meaningful and robust educational experience, our institution has grown from 40 students in 1916 to more than 400 today. Along the way, we opened our doors to change, to growth, and to diversity. No matter where your family has joined us along our evolving path, I hope you will continue to support us in furthering the mission of The Ellis School, whether through philanthropic dollars, your time, your talents, or by spreading the word about Ellis in the community at large. The mission at Ellis is a worthy one, one that should continue well into the future. Our message of educating girls should be revered by all.

As the Head of School, I cannot say enough how much I appreciate, respect, and love what our teachers do for girls and young women each and every day. We have amazing faculty and staff who are committed to students, and we owe them thanks for making Ellis such a special place. It is the expert faculty—both past and present—and our amazing students who contribute most to the School’s powerful Ellisian canvas. Our faculty and staff show up each and every day to embrace and build upon the mission that has steered us forward for 108 years. They embody The Ellis School’s mission to prepare girls and young women to be bold, authentic, and intellectually vibrant changemakers.

At our school, we’re bold together. From our youngest learners in the Lower School who bring their full selves to the classroom, asking inquisitive questions, embracing creativity, and discovering their voices, to our middle schoolers who are deepening their skills in math, writing, and science and adding nuance and insight with each new lesson. And as we look to our Upper School students, nearing graduation, we’re inspired by their talents, leadership, and curiosity as they hone their writing skills and ask powerful research-driven questions, engage deeply with our local ecosystem, and use design thinking and collaboration to tackle complex challenges. Together, we create an environment where everyone can flourish and grow; we truly are better together.

There is a poem that embodies this journey and the perseverance that it takes to come together. May we always keep moving forward and developing young leaders of tomorrow.

Together
Together we've opened some windows
and unlocked some hidden doors
We've been each other's anchor
as we sailed emotional shores
We've bent to the world's winds
We've braved stalls and storms
We've found common ground
in all its changing forms
We've crossed stubborn boundaries
and turned many a stone
We've found haven for our souls
We've found heart and home
And wherever we are, near or far
in our hearts we'll always know
That through the tides of truth
and time, talk, laughter and tears
We're meant to travel this
journey of life
together
all our years.

We have an evolving, interconnected story here at Ellis and we will continue forward together. Uniquely different, the world needs us. We need each other to be bold.
