Tigers Compete in WPIAL Championship for 7th Straight Year
For the seventh consecutive year in a row, the Varsity Field Hockey Team competed in the WPIAL championship against Shady Side Academy. This year’s matchup on November 2 was a battle until the final buzzer that ultimately ended in a 2-1 score that favored Shady Side. Although the game didn’t end with the Tigers being named WPIAL champs, the grit, dedication, and leadership shown on and off the field by our student-athletes this season is certainly something to celebrate.
This year, the Varsity Field Hockey Team had to band together in new, unpredictable ways as they competed in a pandemic and in a season unlike any other. Notably, the Tigers wore masks during every practice and game, proving that a small roadblock wouldn’t deter them from making their seventh consecutive championship appearance.
Head Field Hockey Coach Amanda Rose shared, “This year’s team was young and there were a lot of positions that changed based on the overall team’s needs. However, with that said, there’s so much potential in our young players—they have the drive and passion for the game. Our strong class of seniors led us through this season, from the consistency of Tegan to the speed and offensive execution of Hannah, to the defensive strengths and relentless pressure of Claire to Sam stepping in all over the field to support the team. They set the groundwork and standards as leaders.”
