The month of May in the Middle School is filled with the excitement of class trips, the challenge of studying for final exams and wrapping up class activities, and the anticipation of closing exercises and summer vacation. In the next few weeks, we will honor students in grades 5-8 for their achievements and leadership in Middle School Student Council, class offices, athletics and clubs during our recognition assembles on May 15 and May 22. It is wonderful to see the level of participation displayed by our students in these activities. This year will be our inaugural awarding of the House Cup on May 22, given to the House that has earned the most points throughout the year.
Middle School girls have played sports, written newspaper articles and research papers, organized food drives, and provided leadership as class officers and captains of sports teams. Most importantly, each and every girl has stretched herself to try something new, to persevere when met with a challenge and to enjoy the reward of a job well done.
We honor our eighth graders during the Middle School Closing Exercises on June 3. During the ceremony, academic awards are given in the areas of writing, history, science, math, world language, performing and visual arts and athletics. Additionally, we award the Junior Scholar Cup to the eighth grader with the highest grade point average for grades 6-8 and the Community Cup to the student who has displayed outstanding commitment to the Middle School Community throughout her Middle School career. This year, with input from faculty, administration and parents, we have included a new category of award, the Ellis Scholar. Students who have earned a 3.8 grade point average for grades 6-8 will be recognized as Ellis Scholars. We look forward to celebrating with eighth grade parents at the closing exercises on Tuesday, June 3 at 8:30 a.m.
On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Middle School, I want to thank every parent for their support and commitment to the Middle School this year. As we bring this school year to a close, we wish you a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you in the fall.
If you're interested in exploring Ellis for your daughter, let's connect! Request information about enrollment, attend one of our upcoming events, or hear about Ellis from those who know it best: our students.
