Littsburgh: Turning the Page on Pittsburgh’s Literary Scene

When Pittsburgh native Rachel EKSTROM Courage ’98 decided to pursue a career in the literary world she did what any aspiring professional would do—she moved to New York City. She’s back, and writing the book (actually, it’s a website) on the city’s ever-expanding literary scene.
Created and developed by Rachel; her husband, Nick (a publishing consultant); and colleague, Katie Kurtzman (a book publicist), www.littsburgh.com officially went live this past August. Serving as a clearinghouse of news and events, resources and contacts, the site is dedicated to all things, and people, linked to literature.

“We’re trying to reflect the local scene and show the rest of the world how great Pittsburgh is,” Rachel says. “It’s been a labor of love.” Also a labor of love is Rachel’s day job as an agent with the Irene Goodman Literary Agency. Although the firm is based in NYC, Rachel is now working from her hometown of Pittsburgh.
