Ellis senior signs letter of intent for Division I Basketball
On November 16, Ellis senior Dayna Rouse, Class of 2016, signed her letter of intent to play NCAA Division I Basketball at Longwood University. Rouse played basketball all four years at The Ellis School, playing a vital role in clenching the team’s first playoff berth in over a decade in the 2015 WPIAL AA playoffs. Rouse was a leading scorer in the WPIAL last year, scoring 251 points and averaging 17.9 points per game.
Outside of school, Rouse has played on the Western PA Bruins U17 Team, helping the team win the U.S. Junior National girls’ basketball championship last summer in Washington, D.C.
Quinzale Taylor, Head Basketball Coach of the Ellis School Tigers says, “It has been an absolute pleasure coaching Ms. Dayna Rouse at The Ellis School. In my second year coaching her, I witnessed her efforts firsthand last season as she lead our basketball program to the first WPIAL playoffs since 2003. Dayna has accumulated high totals in points, rebounds and blocks and we are in the process of gathering scores in order to follow her season to recognize her as she reaches the 1,000 point plateau. I expect Dayna to excel at the collegiate level…”
Rouse has been a fierce competitor in cross country and track in addition to basketball. She is an advocate for social justice matters and leads Ellis’ Sisterhood club, the Black student affinity group at the school. Rouse intends to study biology and envisions a potential career in the health sciences.
