Inspiring Women: Career Connections assembly for grades 5 to 12

On January 16, Ellis students in grades 5 to 12 heard from six women who have established inspiring and successful careers in fields ranging from law to finance to human services. The speakers were all Ellis parents deeply committed to excellence in education for girls and young women. Organized by Elizabeth Genter, an Ellis Board member, alumna and the mother of two current Ellis students, this assembly is part of the School’s ongoing strategic efforts to nurture leadership and individual potential in every girl.
THE SPEAKERS:
Susan Jones Block, a former public policy aide to an Ohio Senator, the Speaker of the Ohio House, and former Governor George V. Voinovich: Mrs. Block also worked as a lobbyist for a Columbus based firm. Since moving to Pittsburgh in 2002, Mrs. Block has been a full- time community volunteer. She has served on the boards of the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society and the Pittsburgh Opera, and has been involved with numerous other charitable organizations. She is currently President of the Women’s Committee of the Carnegie Museum of Art and is an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees of the Carnegie Museum of Art. She also serves as a board member of the Paul and Dina Block Foundation, a family foundation, and the Alan I W Frank Foundation.

Katy Everett, a Senior Account Executive at Salesforce.com responsible for key accounts in the mid-Atlantic region: She joined the company in 2001 and is responsible for all commercial interactions with these key accounts and is charged with garnering and growing revenue among these customers for Salesforce.com. Katy brings more than 25 years of sales and sales management experience to this role.  Prior to joining Salesforce, she was head of the Health Plan and Payor Markets group for the Mid-Atlantic for Quest Diagnostics, Inc.  She previously held both individual contributors roles and sales management roles at Tiversa, FreeMarkets and Ariba.  Her experience is in start up, scale up and mature company environments.  She is active in the Pittsburgh non-profit community as a volunteer and fundraiser.

Lisa Frankovitch, a corporate development and executive management veteran with global experience growing early stage companies: She is Senior Vice President for Sales & Business Development with Uplogix.  Prior to that she worked for Adam's Capital Management as the director of corporate partner strategy. She also started several business units and served in multiple  management roles for iGATE Capital where she was as a member of the executive team that lead two successful IPOs of iGate subsidiaries.

Financial planner Elizabeth Genter '77: Elizabeth graduated from Ellis in 1977 and from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1982 with a degree in education. In 1991 she received her MS in education from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1997 she founded Schenley Capital, a Registered Investment Advisory firm based in Sewickley, Pennsylvania providing investment services—including money management, financial planning, and portfolio manager searches—to provide thoughtful, customized advice and advisory services to families and institutions striving to preserve and grow wealth.

Lois Mufuka Martin, Executive Director of Bethlehem Haven, a multifaceted human services organization with a $3.4 million dollar budget whose mission is to take women from homelessness to housing and self-sufficiency: Housed in three Uptown Pittsburgh locations, with more than 65 staff and earned income from rental space and ownership of 2 high end consignment shops, Bethlehem Haven has served as a leader in ending homelessness since 1981 and provides transitional housing and permanent supportive housing to almost 100 women daily. Prior to Bethlehem Haven, Ms. Martin served as an independent nonprofit consultant with a focus on community engagement strategies, diversity training, grant writing, program development and strategic planning facilitation. She also was Community Fund Director of the United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County.

Attorney Regina Wilson '99, a Conflicts Analyst with K&L Gates in Pittsburgh: She was previously an associate with the law firm of Goehring, Rutter & Boehm, where her practice included local taxation and collection, as well as family law. Regina is a Conflicts Analyst with K&L Gates in Pittsburgh. She also served as President of the Homer S. Brown Law Association, an affiliate of the National Bar association. Prior to graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law Regina worked as a Certified Legal Intern at the Community Economic Development Clinic. She graduated cum laude from Baldwin-Wallace College, where she studied French along with International Studies.
